Allentown, Pa. — Country music staples Alan Jackson and Brooks & Dunn will return to The Great Allentown Fair this year, each with a new country artist on their respective bills.

Alan Jackson, who pulled in four nominations for next month’s Grammy Awards including one for Song of the Year, will headline at the fair on Wednesday, August 27. His opening act, newcomer Joe Nichols, is up for three country music Grammys in the same categories as the veteran Jackson.

Brooks & Dunn will perform at the fair on Saturday, August 30. The dynamic duo of country will be joined by Rascal Flatts, a high-energy trio that just had its sophomore CD go platinum.

Fair talent buyer Bonnie Brosious said that tickets for both concerts, and more shows to be announced during the upcoming weeks, will go on sale in late March, exact date still to be determined.  She said the shows are being announced now because the dates will soon appear on Internet sites.

Alan Jackson has consistently produced popular country albums and singles since 1989, but 2002 appeared to be one of his strongest years.  His CD “Drive” helped him win a record five Country Music Association Awards last November including Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year.

In addition to receiving country music’s highest accolades for the single “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning),” a recording that was released shortly after and references the tragedy, Jackson is nominated for the Grammy Award’s coveted Song of the Year.

Jackson’s special guest Joe Nichols, a sultry baritone with Joe Millionaire looks, has two Grammy nominations for his single “The Impossible,” Best Male Country Performance and Best Country Song. He is also up for Best Country Album, “Man With A Memory.”

Brooks & Dunn is another perennial producer of country hits that like Jackson, has appeared at The Allentown Fair four previous times.  They have sold 22 million albums and scored 18 #1 hits with their honky tonk brand of country music.   Their 2001 CD “Steers and Stripes” has remained on Billboard’s Top Country Album chart 91 weeks, longer than any other current entry.

Rascal Flatts has been the most requested artist by fans emailing The Allentown Fair in recent months.   Their sophomore album, “Melt” was released in October and already was certified platinum.  Their single “These Days” rose to #1 and remains in the top ten after 31 weeks on the charts.

“We know that Alan Jackson and Brooks & Dunn are tried and true artists that each have a catalog of hits that make for extremely entertaining performances,” Brosious remarked. “The bonuses they bring are new artists like Joe Nichols and Rascal Flatts, who may well be headliners at the fair in the near future,” she added.
